about gisbert stach

Gisbert Stach, born in 1963 in Freiburg/Breisgau in Germany, completed his vocational training at the Technical College for Glass and Jewellery in Kaufbeuren-Neugablonz and then continued at the University of Applied Sciences for Art and Design in Cologne where he completed his training under Prof. Peter Skubic.
Since finishing his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in Prof. Otto Künzli’s seminar (diploma in 1996), Gisbert Stach has been working as a freelance artist, who combines jewelry with video and photography in a most unique way. One focus in his piece of art are the processes of transformation and experimentation; the pieces vanish by means of chemical dissolution, growth processes in nature dictate shape and contour. Stach has participated in international symposia and is a member of the jury in competitions. He conducts workshops at art colleges and cultural institutions such as in Oslo, Antwerp, Bethlehem, Tel Aviv, and Beirut.
He is one of the most important authors of contemporary jewelry. Most recently, Stach was honored with the Danner Honorary Award 2017 of the Danner Foundation. His pieces are exhibited in several international collections, among them, the Amber Museum in Gdańsk and The Design Museum in Munich.
